Gibraltar - February 2009 - March 2009

Sample Image  Sample Image Sample Image

I was in Gilbraltar for 2 weeks in February 2009. It was really an interesting holiday. The best views was the Rock of Gilbraltar itself, the sea view from Hotel Caleta and the many monkeys walking about with their little babies peacefully amongst humans bravely.

Gilbraltar is really a small beautiful town with numerous lovely restaurants and natural spots.

There were hundreds of birds flying on a daily basis around this huge white rock that gave the rock an unusual magical charm.

I played in the Gilbratar chess tournament in their lowest category but realised later that you have to play like a Grandmaster to do well even in the lowest section. The joy however of participating was meeting so many people from all walks of live and having good conversation and a great time. There were kids, adults, elderly people, beautiful good looking men and women from all over the world. Hardly any evening was boring at the Hotel Caleta where the tournament was played and it is difficult for me to decide what poem to pen out for this occasion.

So this is a poem about nature and a chess player who is in love. (Completely Fiction!)

My Rock of Gibraltar

Rock, Rock

O! My Rock of Gibraltar

You are my heavenly altar

The doves sing, the white clouds dance

And the white waves at sea wave romance

And for the love of chess

Let me humbly confess

The way you move those chess pieces

Can mend anyones hearts broken pieces

Rock, Rock

O! My Rock of Gibraltar

With nature beautiful beyound wonder

The monkeys & birds are at home

They play about and joyously roam

And when I look at you it is clear

You are a breathe of fresh Gibraltar air

You touch my pawns, rook, bishop, queen, king and knight

My heart is racing, I think this must be Gilbraltar love Alright!

Edinburgh - August 2008

During this time of traveling, there was the famous Fringe Festival going on and so I had the opportunity to see a lot of street music performances and comedy acts as well. Here I am sharing some of my pictures of Edinburgh with you, I hope you like them!

Isle of Wight – January 2008

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->If you look around you, there is beauty. There is the potential to explore new things even right in your own backyard. I spent two weekends in Isle of Wight and was amazed to still discover more hidden beauty in England. Its funny I have come across people who have never left their state or village yet cannot identify the beautiful aspects of their own territory. What a shame? Wake up! The seashores, cliffs, hills and landscapes in Isle of Wight are natural, untouched, wild, raw and beautiful. The people I met were very friendly and welcoming especially the chess club in Newport.

Beauty spots were Gods Hill, Botanic Gardens, The Needles, and Ventnor. Below are some pictures to share my adventures with you.

Well the last two trips I did abroad were to Pittsburgh and New York(Manhattan). So please read the information below for more information.

My Trip - Pittsburgh - October 2007

If you read my poem ‘If you don’t travel’ you may understand my passion for traveling. How can you unravel if you don’t travel?

So I took a trip to Pittsburgh on the 22nd of October 2007 from London via Air France via Paris and then straight to Washington Dulles Airport. And if you are one who is afraid of heights, don’t worry you are not alone. The whole flight went smoothly until I got to the queue for visitors into the USA for Visa Waiver checks. I was asked all sort of personal questions that frustrated me and finally I got the ‘Welcome to America’ speech from the Officer who dealt with my application.

But that was not the end of my journey. A 4.5-hour trip by car from Washington to Pittsburgh made my day. I met some of the most amazing natural sights. The awesome changing color of the trees leafs and the beautiful architecture of the landscape made me feel I was in heaven.

And then we passed all the neighboring towns on the way from West Virginia to Pittsburgh. It was a beautiful sight with unique beautiful houses, farmland and nature. So I am on the verge of writing a little poem about Pittsburgh, which I will post shortly on this page.

Finally when you have never been a victim of flight cancellation, you will never really understand what people go through. My flight back on the 28th of October was canceled and at that point my nightmare began. I was put in Hilton for the night but a problem with food vouchers meant I was only entitled to breakfast. Check out time was 12noon, which was kindly extended to 2.00pm as my flight was rescheduled with BA for 7.45pm. Unfortunately BA was booked only to be told after queuing for more than 1 hour and with no lunch offered by Air France, I made my own arrangements.

After queuing up again to get my query answered by Air France a kind staff finally booked me with Virgin Atlantic to return to London. Was I glad I returned back home?

Yes I was even though I love to travel!

Enjoy my pictures from my D900 mobile phone; I will put a few better pictures from my camera on this page later this month.

 Pittsburgh!

With nature and beauty of infinity
Showered upon without pity upon this city
Pittsburgh! Pittsburgh I feast my eyes
Upon your valleys and mountains thighs

As we drive down the hills
To a town once known for steel
I cannot help it as I breathe in and feel
My once troubled mind begins to heal

Down the market lane called 'The Strip'
I embark upon another adventurous trip
The gypsies laugh and display a joyous dance
While the surrounding air gloriously romances
And every T-Shirt in a stall is a 'Steeler
I may eventually become a football believer

Yes! Pittsburgh! Pittsburgh! I feast my eyes
Tree leafs change to rosy colours before my eyes
With passion I consume the beautiful sights of the skies
But now it is time for me to say goodbye. Goodbye!

My Trip - New York - August & December 2006

Well let me first of all say that my trip to New York was quite an experience. The security at the airport was one of the most frustrating aspects of this trip.

Having to stay in line in a massive queue for nearly an hour was not pleasant.

So what else did I do? I visited a few islands(Roosevelt , Long Island), ate in a variety of restaurants (Spanish, Columbian, Japanese, Chilean etc). My favourite was Columbian. I had the opportunity to watch a concert and see one of my favorite rock artists(Mellisa). I had to leave the concert early out of concern as my friend kept on dozing off and snoring rather loudly.

I suppose I am not a shopping mania yet and I did not go crazy on shopping items from the shops for myself and friends. I visited quite a number of different bars and clubs. And I actually met someone, a complete stranger who I did not speak to that for some reason I hoped we could see again as my cigarette was lit. There was a complete sparkle of chemistry in the midnight air for a very brief moment.

I stayed in Manhattan and also have managed a few chess games at a chess club. The subways were a bit gritty and if I had my way, I would have avoided them completely and taken taxis only but sometimes one has to take them because it is easier to beat the non-stop traffic jam in New York.

Here is a  little poem I wrote about my first impression of New York .

New York, New York
A city that breathes endlessly
Dollars are spent carelessly
New York, New York
A city of squares and blocks
And the Stars roll and rock
While tourist flock
Like sheep cornered in squares

Entertainment, clubs and theaters
Is all that seems to matter
Twenty four seven
Alive in heaven

New York
A taxi takes you round and round the blocks
I end up in Madison Square
Where I started out twenty minutes before
But who cares?
This is New York
Every where there are open doors

New York, New York
A city that never sleeps
Everywhere you must leave a tip
But this city is worth the trip
New York, New York
A city of numbers and avenues
And elongated queues

It is true
I see now, I know now
About what they say about New York!
